Texture is a seriously beautiful thing. It can completely change the look of your project with just a few stitches. When I was first starting to explore creating my own designs I would take things like simple scarves and hats and add a few textured stitches. Some wonderful designs have come about that way. Ones like The Emma Hat and The Simply Chained Hat patterns. It’s definitely a great way to get your toes wet in the pattern writing world with out worrying abou the structure of garments.
If you’re a beginner on the crochet scene don’t worry! I know a lot of textured stitches can look pretty daunting but stay calm because they are just a combination of the basics. That’s right once you have learned chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet the world of texture is wide open to you. If you’re a seasoned crocheter it’s always fun to add a few new stitches into your repertoire or experiment and see what you can come up with on your own.
Just remember to always have fun and try something new!
