The Star Stitch is such a beautiful stitch. It adds beautiful texture to your project. And even though it may look complicated it’s actually rather simple!
I discovered this stitch while in a crochet funk where I felt like i was doing everything on repeat and needed to mix it up a little. I instantly fell in love and was able to get so comfortable with the stitch I had designed two patterns using it with in that week.
So let’s get to it!

The Star Stitch is accomplished with two rows forming a cluster.
The star stitch is worked in multiples of 2 + 1 for the base chain.
The first cluster will need 5 chains and every cluster after will need 2. (11 chains would equal 4 clusters)
Insert hook in first chain from hook, yarn over and pull through. Repeat for next 4 chains.
You will now have 6 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops on your hook.
Slip Stitch. This will create your first star cluster.
The next cluster will be worked in the first cluster and the chain. Each arrow and number in the picture down below is a loop you will create and the order you will create them in.
Insert hook into the eye of the first cluster, yarn over and pull through. Insert hook in between the second to last and last loops in the cluster, yarn over and pull through. Insert hook into chain of last loop of previous cluster, yarn over and pull through.
Yarn over and pull through all six loops on the hook.
Repeat the steps for the second cluster across the chain.
Half double crochet in last chain(same chain your last loop of the last cluster was in).
Chain two and turn.
Working in the eye of the star clusters 2 half double crochet in each one across.
Half double crochet in last stitch of the row.
Chain 3 and turn.
Skip first chain in second chain *insert hook, yarn over and pull through. Repeat from * in the third chain and the first 3 stitches.
Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops on the hook. Slip stitch.
Repeat steps for second cluster from previous row across. Half double crochet in last stitch(this will be the same stitch your last loop of the last cluster is in).
Repeat half double crochet row.
Now you know the star stitch!!
